Tree Island Steel operates in Canada under Tree Island Industries Ltd and in the United States under Tree Island Wire (USA) Inc.Position SummaryTree Island’s Maintenance Department is now accepting applications for the position of Automotive / Heavy Duty Mechanic.The successful candidate requires a BC or Inter-Provincial Automotive / Heavy Duty Mechanic Trade Qualification with a minimum of 5 years’ related work experience.ResponsibilitiesReview work orders and discuss work with the supervisor.Inspect motor in operation, road test motor vehicle, and test automotive systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to diagnose and isolate fault.Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drivetrain, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment.Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s performance specifications.Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrication and tune ups.Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems, to locate faults and malfunctions.Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace the unit.Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools.Other duties as assigned.Professional Requirements And QualificationsA BC/Interprovincial Automotive/Heavy Duty Mechanic Trade Qualification or a BC/Interprovincial Automotive Trade Qualification.5 years’ work experience, including the preventive maintenance and repair of fork trucks and tractors, diesel and propane experience.A working knowledge of stationary equipment.Propane certification an asset.The position offers a competitive hourly rate ($39.52), a tools premium ($0.20/hour), a shift premium ($0.70/hour) and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
