We are looking for a Manager, Public Affairs and Media Relations to join our team based out of the Ottawa or Markham, ON region.

In this role you will lead the development and implementation of Xplornet’s corporate communications strategy for both internal and external audiences that supports the growth and recognition of Xplornet as a champion for rural broadband in Canada.

You will work with senior management to ensure a consistent corporate image, lead the development of communications materials for company announcements, employee communications, and executive presentations.

You will be responsible for integrating public relations strategies with the government relations mandate and identifying new opportunities to reach target audiences.

Your daily leadership will be crucial in helping to shape what we say and how we say it.You are a polished communicator with corporate communications experience.

Throughout your career, you have excelled working in a fast-paced, team environment to tell your company’s story to colleagues, customers, media, governments and other key stakeholders.You possess strong interpersonal skills and a collegial working style.

Representing your company in front of an audience comes naturally to you.

Ideally, you have a background in corporate branding, with experience successfully shaping your company’s identity, reputation and brand as well as engaging employees and enabling business results.

Ideally, you are bilingual with outstanding verbal and written communications, proofreading and editing skills in both French and English languages.This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated leader to help shape the direction of Xplornet’s corporate identity moving forward.

Key responsibilities include: Managing Xplornet’s external and internal corporate communications activities.

Being responsible for integrating public relations strategies with the government relations mandate and identifying new opportunities to reach target audiences.

Promoting executive and corporate thought leadership through all communications channels.

Maintaining a keen understanding of industry trends impacting Xplornet and provide advice and guidance on public affairs, media relations, issues management and communications strategies.

Leading effective media relations in support of the corporate and brand narrative while serving as a key media contact.

Drafting, revising, editing, and managing a broad range of communication tools targeting a variety of internal and external audiences: press releases, briefing documents, FAQs, talking points, articles, company announcements, presentations and speeches; Overseeing the production of various PR and corporate communication assets to be used across various media platforms.

Advancing employee engagement, company culture and leadership vision through effective internal communication practices Working collaboratively with a diverse team to effectively contribute to integrated communications strategies with the intent to ensure singular message distribution to media The ideal candidate will possess: An undergraduate degree and/or diploma in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism.

5-7 years of experience in progressively senior communications roles in telecommunications, or related consumer focused industries.

Ideally, experience in change management communications and strategic communications planning; The ability to develop and drive sustained, strategic internal and external communications programs that deliver measurable results and advance your organization’s mission and goals over the medium and long term.

Experience in media relations, managing external facing stakeholders, advocacy groups and government stakeholders and you have strong political acuity with a sophisticated understanding of how to drive relevant, timely external narratives.

Excellent writing skills and experience writing for a range of stakeholders, including government stakeholders.

Strategic and creative thinker, you can distil complex ideas into simple, compelling content to inform, influence and engage.

Deep knowledge of the digital space and have succeeded in elevating an organization’s brand through your experience in digital communications, social media engagement and content amplification.

Experience effectively interfacing with senior management, including executives and CEOs, and external stakeholders.
